Health, Temperament and Physical Appearance are our top priorities when it comes to choosing dogs for our breeding program. We have gone to great lengths to acquire dogs that possess these qualities. Of these three traits, health is number one. Our goal is to provide families with healthy, happy and beautiful companions that they can enjoy for years to come.
All of our adult breeding dogs have been OFA certified for their heart and patella. They have been examined by our vet and have been deemed healthy. In addition to the OFA certification, we have submitted each of our dogs' DNA for genetic testing. We feel genetic testing is vital in reaching our goal of producing the healthiest puppies possible.
While there is never a guarantee of absolute health when it comes to biology, we can do everything in our power to produce the healthiest offspring that we can by utilizing the genetic testing that is available to us. We have chosen to have our dogs tested through Embark. They not only test for genetic diseases commonly associated with the Miniature Schnauzer breed, but they also test for over 160 other genetic diseases as well. Below you will see a list of some of the more common diseases associated with the Miniature Schnauzer breed, along with the link to their website where you can view the complete list of everything they test for.
If you would like to view each of our dogs' individual health clearances, please visit our Dams and Sire pages and you will find their results underneath each of their pictures.
Embark tests for genetic risk factors relevant to your breed but will also screen over 160 genetic mutations linked to diseases in other breeds, allowing you and us to learn more about the frequency and behavior of rare genetic mutations in all dogs.
Our test results are accepted by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for all conditions where OFA has an established DNA registry.
Degenerative Myelopathy (SOD1A)
Myotonia Congenita (CLCN1 Exon 7)
Malignant Hyperthermia
(RYR1)
